The Spartans continue a busy three-day stretch by taking on Heidelberg College of Ohio in a three-game set at Peaceful Valley Field on Heidelberg's campus Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17. First pitch both days is 1 p.m.

MU received 119 ranking points on this week's poll to take a 15-spot leap from their No. 36 placing of a week ago. … Through eight games, the upperclassman duo of senior shortstop Corey Marchant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and junior infielder Dan Maringer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) top the offense, each hitting above .400. Marchant sits at .419 with 13 safeties, six of which are two-baggers, while Maringer is at .409. Sophomore infielder/outfielder Trevor Kimm (Anderson, Ind.) and junior third baseman Jordan Nieman (Michigan City, Ind.) provide an effective power punch power, combining for six doubles, a triple, three home runs and 34 RBIs. … On the mound, over the same span, junior Dylan Padgett (Kirklin, Ind.) and senior Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind.) lead the way so far. Padgett is 2-0 with a .56 earned run average and 11 strikeouts, while Murphy is 1-0 with two saves, a .82 ERA and 11 strikeouts.
