TIFFIN, OHIO – Senior outfielder/pitcher Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind.) produced two base hits to lead No. 21-ranked Manchester University's offense in the opener of a three-game series against Ohio Athletic Conference member Heidelberg Saturday, March 16. The hosts claimed a 2-1 victory
The Black and Gold's leadoff hitter also played a key role in a dandy of a pitching duel between the two sides. Murphy came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the seventh to work his way out of a two-on, two-out jam and kept the game level until the Student Princes produced the winning run in their final at-bat behind an error and two hits.
Junior starter Dylan Padgett (Kirklin, Ind.) registered another strong start. He went six and two-thirds inning, allowing just one run on eight hits and striking out four. Murphy added three Ks for the MU staff. Heidelberg's duo of junior Chris Thomas and sophomore Adam Manner was just as strong, limiting the potent Spartans' offense to only four hits.
The three-game set continues Sunday, March 17, with a pair of nine-inning games beginning at 1 p.m.
