Manchester University, fresh off an appearance in the 2013 NCAA Division III College World Series, placed four of its members on the American Baseball Coaches Association's Division III All-American teams, released late last week.
Senior pitcher/outfielder Bryce Murphy (Ossian, Ind.) was selected to the first team as a utility player, while junior third baseman Jordan Nieman (Michigan City, Ind.) was a second team honoree. Senior shortstop Corey Marchant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and senior pitcher Kyle Konarski (Elkhart, Ind.) were both third team honorees.
Murphy, adding the award to D3Baseball.com honorable mention All-American, ABCA first team and D3Baseball.com second team all-Mideast Region and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year accolades, wrapped up his final season with a team-leading .392 batting average, 78 hits, 66 runs scored and 21 doubles as well as a staff-best 1.52 earned run average and 13 saves. Nieman, adding his second team award to ABCA Mideast Region Player of the Year, D3Baseball.com second team All-American and first team all-Mideast Region and first team all-HCAC, guided the Black and Gold with 11 home runs, 71 runs-batted-in, 124 total bases and .629 slugging percentage. Marchant, a .375 hitter who ended his senior year with 66 hits, 19 doubles, five home runs and 56 RBIs, added his third team ABCA All-American award to first team D3Baseball.com All-American and all-Mideast Region, first team ABCA all-Mideast Region and first team all-HCAC honors, while Konarski, who closed his season with a 10-1 record, 63 strikeouts and a 2.61 ERA, added his third team honor to ABCA first team and D3Baseball.com third team all-Mideast Region and HCAC Pitcher of the Year accolades.
Marchant and Murphy each closed their Spartan playing careers as two-time All-Americans.
