TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Spurred on by a third individual sub-80 score of the 2017 season Saturday, May 6, Manchester University wound up play at the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships with its second and third-lowest team 18-hole totals at Hulman Links Golf Club.
The Spartans tallied a 340 during final round competition Sunday, May 7, after recording a 350 to open the two-day stay. Coach Tara Boone's crew nearly caught league rival Anderson University, ending short by only seven strokes (1394-1401) from a slot in the first eight.
Individually, sophomore Connor Labedz' Saturday 77, part of a 36-hole 160, led him to a four-round 330, similar to junior Jacob Hopkins (Kokomo, Ind.). The Aurora, Ill., native and his teammate each found themselves in the top 30. Senior Andrew Topp (Monticello, Ind.) was only six shots from joining them, placing 36th.
