HANOVER, IND. - A doubles' win from junior Bobby Swaby (Farmersburg, Ind.) and sophomore Kyle Lahman (North Manchester, Ind.) highlighted Manchester University's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener Saturday, March 30.
The number one doubles tandem moved over .500 for the year (3-2) with an 8-5 win. Their victory sent the Spartans (1-5 overall, 0-1 HCAC) into singles action down just 2-1, but the young team was stopped short by six Hanover singles' wins for the 8-1 team final. Lahman showcased the Black and Gold's singles' play, pushing Hanover's Steven Gilliam to three sets but eventually falling 10-2 in a third set super tiebreaker at number one.
Coach Eric Christiansen's group takes a break from HCAC play with a match Thursday, April 4, at Indiana University East. The dual with the Red Wolves also serves as the women's spring season opener. Match time is 3 p.m. MU returns to league play with a trip to Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., Saturday, April 6.
