BLUFFTON, OHIO – Manchester University managed to put on quite a performance Wednesday, April 17, at Bluffton University.
The Spartans, earning them their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win on the season, finished off their hosts with a 9-0 sweep amidst a busy week of conference play and postponed matches. MU improved to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in league play.
The Black and Gold opened doubles play highlighted by the two doubles tandem of junior Miro Arguijo (Corpus Christi, Tex.) and sophomore Phil Truitt (Huntington, Ind.). They sailed by Bluffton's John Oyer and Brock Goetz 8-0.
Manchester continued their dominating play well into singles action receiving straight-set decisions from all six of their starters. Sophomores Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind.) and Kyle Lahman (North Manchester, Ind.) did not drop a game to their opponents, as Lahman defeated Bluffton's A.J Haley at one singles, and Winger cruised past the Beavers' Owen Scott at six singles. Lahman's win moved him over .500 for the season at 5-4.
Action for the Spartans resumes Thursday, April 17, with a non-conference home dual against Bethel College starting at 2:30 p.m. MU's women will also take on the Pilots in a similar start time. Conference play for the men picks back up Saturday, April 20, against the Lions of Mount Saint Joseph. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
