Richmond, Ind.- Fueled by three of five singles victories, Manchester University narrowly missed a road dual victory at Indiana University – East Thursday, Sept. 5.
After the number two team of senior Miro Arguijo III (Corpus Christi, Tex.) and freshman Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.) took an 8-5 win for the Spartans' lone point in doubles' competition, the Black and Gold attempted to produce a comeback in singles' action. Senior Bobby Swaby (Farmersburg, Ind.) was the winner at two singles in a lengthy three-set match over Connor Kramer. Smith continued his excellence within his first competition at the collegiate level at number four singles, polishing off his Red Wolves' opponent in straight sets, as did junior Alex Winger (Warsaw, Ind.). The home team managed to distance itself just enough with three singles decisions.
Coach Eric Christiansen's group turns around Saturday, Sept, 7, for a mixed doubles tournament, with the Manchester University women's team, at Franklin College. Start time is 10 a.m. at FC's campus courts.
