NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University's 7-2 defeat at the hands of Bethel College Monday, Sept. 23, was highlighted by the play of freshman Jacob Bailey.
The Connorsville, Ind., native joined fellow freshman Stratton Smith (New Palestine, Ind.) to claim an 8-0 win at number one doubles. He followed that up with a three-set victory over Luke Prado at number two singles 7-6, 4-6, 10-5. The Spartans fell to 0-3 with the loss.
In the women's portion of the double dual, the visiting Pilots, moving to 7-5 on the year, surrendered just five games in three doubles' matches as part of 9-0 win. Their roll continued in singles with straight-set victories at numbers one through four and six. Senior Jillian Bower (Galveston, Ind.) narrowly missed posting a point for the Spartans (3-3), dropping a three-set thriller (4-6, 6-2, 9-11) to Bethel's Samantha Lukas.
Manchester University's men and women return to action with a home double-dual against the University of St. Francis of Fort Wayne, Ind., Thursday, Sept. 26. First serve is 3:30 p.m.
