St. Mary’s subdues Black and Gold

NOTRE DAME, IND. – Three Manchester University players ended with multiple-hit afternoons, highlighting a pair of non-conference losses to St. Mary's College Sunday, April 14.

Freshman designated player/catcher Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind.) continued her sparkling freshman campaign with four hits and a double, while junior third baseman Kylie Planck (Valparaiso, Ind.) also clouted four hits that included a double and a triple. Senior outfielder Kayla Yates (Delphi, Ind.) added her name to the hit parade with three safeties and a double during the 8-5 and 9-1 losses.

SMC used a seven-run fourth inning rally to stem a quick Spartans' start in the opener. MU jumped out to a 4-1 lead through three and a half innings. Game two saw the home team score six runs over the first three frames en route to the win.

Manchester University (15-11 overall, 7-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) begins a span of eight games in five days Tuesday, April 16. They face a key HCAC clash with Bluffton University of Ohio, in a match-up of the top two teams on the conference standings, in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at the Emery Sears Athletic Complex on Bluffton's campus.
