Spartan Shorts: Women – MU, winners of three of its last five, takes a 6-9 overall and 5-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record into the conference clash. The Spartans are part of a two-way tie for fourth place with Hanover, just a game behind Defiance and Franklin's second-place deadlock. … Last year's season series saw a split between the two sides with each winning at home. Dating back through 2004-05, Manchester University has won 13 of the last 16. … Wednesday's game begins a stretch where the Black and Gold play three of their next four games at home. The Black and Gold are 2-2 in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena and harbor back-to-back victories in their last two appearances. … MU suffered a tight-knit 47-43 loss at the hands of Franklin Jan. 12 in recent action. Sophomore guard Jaimie Childress (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the way, compiling 12 points, two assists, four rebounds and a blocked shot. Childress' double-figure point total was her first of the season. She finished this past week's two-game schedule averaging nine points per game and hitting four-of-five three-point buckets. … Coach Josh Dzurick's team has several individuals that stand strong on the current league statistics report. Freshman guard Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) is 20th in scoring (9.2 ppg), part of the top 15 in steals (12th – 1.7 spg), and in the top 10 of three-point field goal accuracy (7th – 26.2 pct.), junior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is 15th in rebounding (5.4 rpg), freshman guard Hannah Field (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is 12th in assists (2.5 apg), and the sophomore duo of forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Alyssa Hammond (Ossian, Ind.) are within the top 15 in blocked shots (Hammond – 7th – 0.7 bspg/Lang – 14th – 0.5 bspg).
Road Twinbill: The Spartans take a southern journey to the Cincinnati, Ohio, area for a pair of HCAC games against Mt. St. Joseph Saturday, Jan. 19. Start times are 3 p.m. for the women and 5 p.m. for the men.
