Spartan Shorts: Saturday's meeting with the Quakers continues a pivotal final week of the 2012-13 campaign. The Spartans, Rose-Hulman and Bluffton each head to the finish line seeking to grab the final two spots in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's postseason tournament. All three teams took wins Feb. 13. … Coach Josh Dzurick's team began its week by wrapping up a season series sweep of Anderson with a 51-40 decision Wednesday. The inside combination of junior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and sophomore forward Abby Lang (Indianapolis, Ind.) fueled the win. Meiklejohn tallied her third 20-point-plus game of the year with 20, while Lang recorded her fifth double-figure effort with 11 points. … Other top numbers on the box score for Manchester University belonged to sophomore guard Jocelyn Hamilton (Columbus, Ind.) with six assists; sophomore guard Caitlyn Ailor (Ossian, Ind.) with four steals; and sophomore forward Alyssa Hammond (Ossian, Ind.) and freshman guard Justine Kruger (Francisville, Ind.) with five rebounds each to join Lang for the team lead. … Hamilton's team-high six assists marked the eighth time in the last nine games she's dished out multiples in a game, while Hammond has registered four-or-more rebounds in eight straight games. … Freshman forward Katie Arterburn (Indianapolis, Ind.) goes into the regular season finale ranked among the HCAC's top five in three-point field goal percentage. Her 31.5 percent rate of accuracy stands fourth. The underclasswoman back court duo of freshman Hannah Field (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Hamilton are within the top 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio. Field is tied for fourth (plus 1.2), and Hamilton is tied for eighth (plus 1.1). The Black and Gold also have Meiklejohn just outside the top 10 in blocked shots (11th - .6 pg); Field and Hamilton in the same area in assists (Field 12th – 2.5 pg/Hamilton 13th – 2.4 pg); and Arterburn in similar standing in steals (13th – 1.5 pg). … Manchester University sports a 4-1 record in the series since Earlham joined the league in 2010-11 and has a 15-3 advantage all-time. The Quakers captured the season series opener with a 41-39 thriller at Richmond in early January.
