Senior women's tennis player Brandy Leeper (Bremen, Ind.) represented Manchester University on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Player of the Week announcement for the week ending Sept. 22.
Leeper finished the week 4-0 as the Spartans earned wins over Defiance and Earlham to move to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The senior won two matches at No. 2 singles and teamed with senior Kara Gilley (Plymouth, Ind.) for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles, as MU beat the Yellowjackets of Defiance 9-0 and the Quakers of Earlham 6-3.
Against Defiance, Leeper won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and notched an 8-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles. Leeper added a 7-5, 6-3 win in singles, avenging a loss last fall to Claire Welsh, while adding an 8-1 triumph in doubles against Earlham. She teamed up with Gilley to top EC's Olivia Engle and Welsh who they were defeated by a year ago.
The Spartans returned to action this afternoon to face Bethel College of Indiana in non-conference dual play, beginning a busy four-dual week. The complete HCAC Player of the Week release can be viewed at www.heartlandconf.org.
