SPARTAN SHORTS: The Spartans (3-6 overall, 2-3 HCAC) sits sixth on the conference standings, holding down the final postseason tournament spot by a dual in the win column and owning a head-to-head victory over seventh-place Earlham. A win over Anderson Wednesday would move the Black and Gold into fifth … Senior Jillian Bower (Galveston, Ind.) took a 7-2 record and three-match win streak into the week. Fellow seniors Brandy Leeper (Bremen, Ind.) and Abby Berry (Huntington, Ind.) are next in line in singles' wins with four and three, respectively. Bower also tops the doubles' victory chart (five) due to three decisions with freshman Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) and sophomore Morgan Wolf (Otterbein, Ind.) … Bower's numbers have grabbed the attention of the league's statistics' report. She is tied for first with Franklin College's Melissa Sanders and Chelsea Howell amongst all positions in conference-only singles record (5-0), while she leads the number five section. In overall play, she is third at number five in winning percentage (77.8). In doubles, Bower and Beckner are tied for first in overall and conference only winning percentage in the midst of all teams and at number three.
REGULAR SEASON WINDS DOWN: The Spartans host Huntington University in their fall home finale Tuesday, Oct. 8. They travel to Hanover College Saturday, Oct. 12, to close the regular season.
