NAPERVILLE, ILL. – Senior women's distance standout Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) guided a strong first day of competition for Manchester University at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational Thursday, May 12.
Knocking over 18 seconds off her previous personal best in the 10,00 meters, Jordan raced around the track at NCC's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in 36:07.08, placing sixth in the 27-runner field. Most importantly, her time, second-fastest in program history, jumped into the NCAA Division III national performance list at No. 16.
Junior women's thrower Shay Aator (West Lafayette, Ind.) added a second top 10 effort for Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Brian Cashdollar's squad, placing fifth in the hammer throw (51.06 meters – 167 feet, six inches). On the men's side of the ledger, senior distance runner Blake Harris (Fort Wayne, Ind.) picked up a solid seventh-place finish in the 10,000 meters. His time of 31:11.95 was the second fastest in school history and jumped him into the national performance list top 50.
Manchester University resumes its outing at the Dr. Keeler meet Friday, May 12. The Spartans have freshman women's middle distance freshman phenom Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) in the 800 meters, while the men's sprinting duo of sophomore Austin Coughlin (Fairland, Ind.) and junior Harrison Hollis (Lebanon, Ind.) are in the 200-meter field and senior distance runners Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) and Thomas Dean (Bremen, Ind.) taking aim at the 3000-meter steeplechase.
