MU splits Saturday decisions
KALAMAZOO, IND. – The sophomore combination of outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) and middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) helped propel Manchester University to a 1-1 record on the final day of the Kalamazoo College Green Hornet Invitational Saturday, Aug. 31.
Pruden drilled 20 kills, including 13 in a four-game battle with North Central College of Illinois, while Pavelka added 13 kills. Pavelka also came up big for the Spartans with nine service aces and seven blocks. Other impressive numbers came from senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Makenna Hamilton (Medaryville, Ind.) (nine kills, two service aces and 19 digs) and sophomore setter Mikayla Munn (Elkhart, Ind.) (six kills, 34 assists, and 17 digs).
MU, improving to 1-2, toppled North Park University of Illinois in four games to start the day. They gave a strong attempt at moving over .500, taking game two from North Central, but the Cardinals responded with 25-17 and 25-23 wins to take the match.
The Spartans get back to the court Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7, for the North Park (Ill.) Viking Classic.
