Pruden tabbed all-tourney, Adrian claims team title

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Two players registered 20-or-more kills for Manchester University to highlight day two play at its own Pizza Hut Invitational Saturday, Sept. 14.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) drilled 29 kills and hit .229 to lead the Spartans (1-9) in a hard-fought four-game loss to eventual tourney champion Adrian College of Michigan and a three-game defeat at the hands of Capital University of Ohio. Freshman outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) totaled 21 kills in the two matches.

Pruden's final day play earned her an all-tournament selection. Other leading numbers for the Black and Gold came from Chowning (27 digs), sophomore middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) (eight blocks) and sophomore setter Mikayla Munn (Elkhart, Ind.) (44 assists).

Adrian completed a sparkling weekend, going 4-0 to move to 4-7 on the season. A five-game thriller with Anderson University wrapped up their perfect run. Sophomore right side hitter Jordan Brisson earned tourney Most Valuable Player honors after compiling 54 kills and a .281 attack percentage. Defending champion Capital placed second with a 3-1 record.

Manchester University continues a season-high four-match home stand Tuesday, Sept. 17, when Indiana University – Northwest visits Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 7 p.m. first serve.
