Manchester University opens week on high note
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Sophomore middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) hammered 11 kills and turned in a dazzling .625 attack percentage Tiuesday, Sept. 17, leading Manchester University to a sweep of Indiana University – Northwest.
Pavelka didn't stop at attacking, either. She also blocked five RedHawk attempts with one solo and four assisted stuffs, registered two digs and served up a pair of aces. She was one of many stars for Coach Kendra Marlowe's team, as they celebrated Wabash County Special Olympians Night with a 25-7, 25-13, 25-10 sweep.
Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) delivered four service aces, while sophomore setter Mikayla Munn (Elkhart, Ind.) dished up 20 assists and three service aces while sharing the digs' team lead of seven with junior defensive specialist Morgan Yoder (Goshen, Ind.). Munn also was tough at the net on defense with three blocks as was sophomore middle hitter Devin Clark (Madison, Ind.) with four.
MU, improving to 2-9 and putting the brakes on an eight-match losing skid, jumped out quickly by scoring 14 of the first 20 points in the opening set. IU-Northwest, dropping to 1-18, did battle early in each of the second and third sets, leading 7-6 in the second before the home side scored 12 of the next 13 points and trailing only 8-7 in the third before Yoder served up a run of 10 points in a row.
The Black and Gold begin a five-match road swing Friday, Sept. 20, when they meet Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Earlham College at Trueblood Fieldhouse on EC's campus in Richmond, Ind. The non-conference clash begins at 7 p.m.
